APEM Group, a leading global environmental consultancy, has opened its first Australian office located in Melbourne. This strategic expansion marks a significant milestone for the group in establishing a permanent presence in Australia, which will act as the regional hub for the Asia Pacific region.
Opening our Melbourne office is the next stage in the APEM Group’s growth journey in Australia and underscores the company’s dedication to supporting the burgeoning offshore wind sector.
Australia is key player in the global push to develop offshore wind capacity, with the State of Victoria looking to generate 9GW of capacity by 2040.
We are delighted to open our first Australian office in Melbourne. This continues our investment in Australia as a strategic area of growth for the APEM Group in the APAC region.
Combining our market leading aerial survey capabilities with our experience in EIA and consenting for the offshore wind market, we provide confidence to global renewable developers and local regulators that financial and delivery risk can be mitigated, first time, every time.
As Australia’s offshore wind sector looks to deliver the Australian government’s ambitious targets for renewable energy to help meet the country’s climate change commitments, establishing an office in Melbourne builds on APEM Group’s work on the feasibility stage of the ‘Star of the South’, Australia’s first offshore windfarm development2.
With six priority areas identified for offshore wind development in Australia, a large amount of new data on seabirds and other marine wildlife will be required to gain consent.
Bringing over 30 years of experience in ornithology and marine mammal surveys globally, APEM Group offer high quality scientific analysis for marine wildlife surveys to the offshore wind sector. Our surveys are used by regulators, Government agencies and global renewable energy developers for seabird monitoring and ornithological impact assessments for offshore wind projects3.
These surveys are the preferred option for collecting data across Europe and the US in the marine environment, with our use of LiDAR to detect bird flight height cited as best practice by offshore wind regulators in other regions4. These methods have been tailored to collect the most scientifically robust digital aerial stills data for use in offshore wind assessments, reducing uncertainty, adding confidence and allowing for a more efficient process to reduce the likelihood of delays in the permitting process.
