Aquatic Ecology Assessment and Monitoring

Biodiversity is a major consideration in any interaction with aquatic ecosystems, with the balance of organisms including plants, fish, river mammals and invertebrates. Our specialist teams are called upon to assess biodiversity and aquatic ecosystems using innovative NatureTech solutions like eDNA as well as protecting larger aquatic life with fish and eel investigations and surveys, to ensure that all life within water systems is detected and safeguarded.

Related Services

Marine Fisheries

Survey design and data collection of marine fish, shellfish and eel stocks across marine commercial and recreational sectors. Modelling and advice on the socioeconomic impacts of alternative management measures, legislation and policy, as well as from offshore wind developments.

Freshwater Fisheries

Fisheries science and management covering salmonid, shellfish, coarse fish and eels. Our teams drive fisheries policy and are trusted to provide population and stock assessments, impacts, dynamics and data modelling and analysis with investigations including eDNA analysis and fish tagging and tracking.

Fish Engineering

Our fish engineering team offer advice and assessments on the often-complex issues surrounding fish and eel pass projects from weirs to dams, sluices to gauging stations. Expertise in fish biology and ecology, engineering, hydrometry and hydrology.

Intertidal and Subtidal Benthic Surveys

Our benthic taxonomy team includes internationally respected and published marine scientists. Contract management for the benthic invertebrate, fish, and particle size components of the North East Atlantic Marine Biological Analytical Quality Control (NMBAQC) scheme.

Freshwater Surveys

Our field and laboratory freshwater surveying teams work together to provide accurate identification of invertebrates, producing reliable data to support the monitoring and assessment of freshwater ecosystems, statistical analysis and modelling.

Fish Management

Fish rescue, removal, relocation and stock assessment services since 1987, with rapid response and technical advice using the latest netting and surveying techniques including eDNA analysis, tagging and tracking and catchment investigations.

Aerial Surveys

Using digital aerial imagery to identify and locate leaks and map pipe routes for both clean water and wastewater networks. Using thermal sensors, our teams also gather thermographic data to inspect the condition of utility assets, including water and wastewater treatment facilities and buried pipelines.
