APEM Group Are Water Industry Awards Winners!

APEM Group wins Pollution Mitigation Initiative of the Year, awarded by the Water Industry Awards on 4th July 2024.

In a prestigious affirmation of its long-enduring commitment to water quality and supporting the Water industry, APEM Group is honoured to be awarded “Pollution Mitigation Initiative of the Year” by the Water Industry Awards.

This follows the industry-leading project completed by APEM Group’s Water team alongside Meteor Communications, a technology company specialising in monitoring systems for water quality and infrastructure.

Water Industry Awards

Meteor Communications installed and calibrated the monitoring instruments and constructed a real-time web-based data provision, alerting APEM Group and the client when water quality wavered in the River Kent.

APEM Group provided United Utilities with regular water quality reports, processing the information and providing incident notices when scientific water quality values were exceeded. Real-time access to water quality data reassured United Utilities, the Environment Agency and local stakeholders that river water quality was being maintained, and that a rapid response would be available from APEM Group if an alert was issued, including a site response to initiate pollution mitigation if required.

CWQM allows greater clarity on the impacts of water industry discharges and will be an industry requirement starting from 2025 in England, meaning that this project has set the standard for collecting, interpreting and acting on water quality data collected.

APEM Group would like to extend a special thanks to the Water team involved with this project, who have displayed unrivalled expertise and client support throughout.

‘‘

This award is fantastic recognition of our work in developing best practice for the implementation of continuous water quality for the water sector to understand and monitor environmental performance and aquatic ecology. Through working in partnership with United Utilities and technical partner Meteor Communications, the APEM team’s values of scientific quality and data led solutions were at the heart of this exemplar project for the industry. We are immensely proud of the award.

Darroch Baker, Managing Director, Water and Land Environmental Services, APEM Group

Special thanks also to the Meteor Communications team for seamless technology integration within the project and to the Water Industry Awards for the award.
