Introducing Michael McMullan, Sector Director for Ireland

As Sector Director for Ireland, Michael works closely with the leaders of  AQUAFACT,  Macro Works  and Woodrow as well as the wider APEM Group leadership community, with responsibility for strategy, performance and growth.

An innovative environmental leader and technical expert, Michael develops and leads teams in the diverse disciplines within APEM Group in Ireland, which include landscape architecture, ecological planning, terrestrial surveys, sustainability services, Environmental Impact Assessment, Appropriate Assessment and marine benthic and intertidal surveying and modelling.

Michael has specialist knowledge in the development and project management of sustainability studies and appraisals, strategic environmental assessments (SEA) for plans and programmes, impact assessments and environmental management systems for major infrastructure and development projects. In over 27 years of working with private and public sector organisations, Michael has driven an extensive range of infrastructure and development projects in Ireland, the UK and overseas, including New Zealand and Australia.

A Chartered Town Planner and Chartered Environmentalist, Michael has led multi-disciplinary teams on rail, road, aviation, power development, renewable energy, waste management and urban regeneration schemes including High Speed Two in the United Kingdom, and aviation, greenways/active travel, wind, solar and hydrogen schemes in Ireland.

Michael has previously provided sustainability and environmental training to Government training agencies, universities and professional bodies. With a keen interest in mentoring and coaching the next generation, he has been a visiting lecturer at the Sustainability Research Institute, University of Leeds, on their MSc in Sustainability and Consultancy for over a well over a decade. Michael has a passion for ongoing skills development and is currently studying part time for a masters in Sustainable Mountain Development from the University of the Highlands and Islands.
